Main Accords

Smells Like — Like rich patchouli and sandalwood with bergamot and lemon, earthy and elegant.

Patchouli Imperial from Dior's La Collection Couturier Parfumeur is a masterful exploration of one of perfumery's most misunderstood ingredients. Released in 2011 as an Eau de Parfum for men, this fragrance rescues patchouli from its hippie associations and presents it in its most refined, luxurious form.

The opening is bright and approachable. Bergamot, lemon, and mandarin orange provide a clean citrus start that immediately signals this will not be a heavy, dark patchouli experience.

Interestingly, both patchouli and sandalwood appear in the top notes as well, woven right into the opening to create a seamless integration from the very first spray. This clever construction means the transition between layers feels completely natural.

The heart is where the fragrance reveals its sophisticated character. Rose adds a touch of floral elegance, while coriander brings a lemony spice that bridges the citrus top and woody base.

Tonka bean and vanilla contribute a soft, gourmand sweetness that smooths any rough edges. Woody notes reinforce the overall structure, creating a warm, enveloping middle that feels both powerful and polished.

The base is deep and satisfying. Patchouli takes center stage, presented here in its most imperial form, rich and earthy but also smooth and refined.

Sandalwood adds creamy warmth, while oud provides a subtle dark, animalic quality that adds depth without dominating. Musk and white musk give the base a clean, lasting finish.

The dominant woody accord confirms that this is fundamentally a fragrance about beautiful wood and earth. Patchouli lovers will find this to be one of the finest representations of the note in modern perfumery.

It has enough freshness for daytime wear but enough depth for evening. A true connoisseur's fragrance that rewards attention.
