Cassia

Cassia is a warm, sweet spice closely related to cinnamon but with a bolder, more assertive character. Also known as Chinese cinnamon, cassia comes from the bark of the cinnamomum cassia tree and has a richer, more intense aroma than true Ceylon cinnamon.

Where cinnamon is delicate and refined, cassia is bold and spicy with a deeper, almost resinous sweetness. In perfumery, cassia brings an unmistakable warm-spicy sweetness that is instantly recognizable and deeply comforting.

The note has a slightly darker, more complex character than cinnamon, with hints of clove and even a faintly woody quality. Cassia works beautifully in oriental, spicy, and gourmand fragrances where its warm sweetness adds depth and intrigue.

It pairs wonderfully with vanilla, amber, dark woods, rose, and other spices. Cassia is a favorite in autumn and winter fragrances where its warmth feels perfectly seasonal.

The ingredient has been used in perfumery for centuries, featuring in some of the oldest known fragrance recipes. Modern perfumers continue to value cassia for the bold, warm character it brings to compositions.
