Syringa

Syringa is another name for lilac, one of the most beloved spring flowers with a scent that is synonymous with the arrival of warm weather. The large, cone-shaped flower clusters of the syringa shrub produce a rich, sweet, honeyed floral with green, slightly powdery undertones.

Lilac has a nostalgic quality that transports many people back to childhood memories of spring gardens. In perfumery, syringa is challenging to capture because natural lilac does not yield a usable essential oil.

Perfumers recreate the scent using synthetic accords that blend hydroxycitronellal, terpineol, and other molecules. The resulting note is sweet, romantic, and deeply floral.
